The Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival is a month-long celebration of the popular local surf-culture art form. Surfboard art can be a painting that’s created using a re-purposed surfboard as the canvas or it can be a sculpture that uses a surfboard as the substrate material. The works are beautiful interpretations of nature or fantasy, and they will be displayed throughout the city. Chicago has its public-art display of cows, San Francisco has its hearts, and Morro Bay has its surfboards!
This community-sponsored event features the works of 25 renowned local artists and community groups such as the 4th-grade class of Del Mar Elementary School and the Morro Bay Tourism Bureau. Starting November 1st, surfboards can be viewed at sponsoring locations throughout Morro Bay. A map showing all of the sponsoring locations is available at the Morro Bay Visitors Center, 255 Morro Bay Blvd., or can be viewed online by clicking HERE. The free public exhibition closes November 28th.
The surfboard art pieces will be auctioned on Saturday, November 29th at Fish Bonez Restaurant from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., with a VIP preview starting at 1 p.m. Partial sales proceeds will benefit Project Surf Camp and Morro Bay in Bloom.
