I have been painting for about 5 years, using oils on canvas or wood panels. I seem to be painting mainly portraits at the moment – I like finding and showing the stories in each face – but I have also done several large paintings of athletes at the end of a race, feet (always interesting), and a series of large scale dried sycamore leaves which fall in their millions (and yet each one unique) on our farm on Atascadero Road.
I try to give each subject deep attention, my full and careful scrutiny, in order to engage my ability to express ideas and emotion in viscous substance. I paint to make pictures with my hands, up in my barn with wind and changing light, cats and birds around me.
